Corn bread, our family's favorite bread

Image
Always perfect for coffee, tea or milk  I discovered baking  corn bread I guess when I was pregnant with Mikee. I was working home-based  that time. And because I was at home most of the time, I had the time to prepare meals for the family and try dishes and breads and pastries while waiting for the stork. That was years ago. Mikee is now three years old. After I gave birth, I went back to work and was frantically busy with everything. Cooking and baking was put aside. But you know, when you're a Mom, there's always this longing to cook and bake something for the family. It happened again, the cooking muse found me again, one rainy afternoon trip when I was on my way home to Naga from Legazpi. As soon as I arrived Naga, I bought all the ingredients and baked again corn bread, our family's favorite bread. I got the recipe from this website  click this link for recipe . Corn bread's  origin according to some articles I read is from South America. This is a ...

8 tips on Self-Service Laundry

Image
Seriously, in these times when househelps are so difficult to find and although washing machines are affordable but you don't have the time and water is scarce;  this do it yourself laundry is very helpful to family like us. I am very sure that this is also friendly and convenient to students, transients and busy working people. I remember, my mom used to tell me, in those days, women gather in the river banks and wash their clothes there while listening to the radio or catching up with their daily lives or even sharing "tsismis" or gossip. These days, we all go to the self-service laundry. One Big Wash, our laundry shop nearby. Located at Barlin Street in Naga City That's Gaby. I'm teaching her how to do the laundry Together with my 15-year old daughter Gabby, being first times in the self-service laundry, we tried and are compelled to do the laundry by ourselves because of the rainy weather and the absence of a househelp. Going to the do- it- y...

MySpa : the best body scrub ever

Image
You go to a SPA to relax. You enter to an aromatic place with subdued lights, soft music, tea light scented candles,   smiling attendants, and you'd like to sit forever in those comfortable chairs! But, sometimes, you're hesitant. First, you worry about the price. Is it too expensive?   But come to think of it. Don't you deserve some pampering once in a while? MySpa, now my favorite spa. Front desk: you will out a form and choose the kind of service you want. We're ready for this Spa moment! You will be greeted by a friendly front desk staff The comfy chair for foot spa! Second,  you're intimidated with the undressing part, right? You have this inhibition to take off your clothes and submit your weary and tired body to a therapist. It's always the dilemma of my friends. No matter how aching their bodies are they would always settle for a simple foot spa. My body scrub body is BLUE! She obviously doesn't like the color!...

Letter for my three girls

Image
Dear Gaby, Wafi and Mikee, Mom is not the best and perfect mom. I have lapses. I am writing this after the JMR Day, August 18, that's two years after one of the best guys I know in Bicol died because of plane crash. Mom volunteers to take part in the event. When I volunteer, it means I do not get any cash. But the memories are all worthy of my time, I assure you. I would like you to be like a bit of me (but not too much, sometimes, I think I am overdoing it. So, try to be very rich first before you help others, you'll help more for sure). Mom is cool and helpful. Frustrating that  I do not make it to lunch or dinner sometimes, maybe, most of the times. Mom might missed out some of your assignments and things you in need in school. Mom is not perfect. But Mom is doing things which you will be proud of her when you're all grown up. I am not rich - but the memories I have shared with people and with you makes me feel like a big billionaire. Sorry for all your Mom's shor...

Gaby's Banana Fritters

Image
When you're a stay at home mom, you don't have any choice but to oversee everything. For almost two months, I do most of the household chores, except for cooking, Fer makes sure that he cooks healthy for us. For almost two months or so, there's more vegetables and fish on our table. If there's meat, it's just chicken. Later did Gaby and I realize that eating meat is like a habit. When you eat it all the time, your taste buds will be craving for it. Now, because we're used to eating more vegetables and fish, we now forget to even ask for pork or any meat. I sometimes spoil the kids cooking fried chicken every now and then. Maybe once every two weeks. Anyway, because I am a stay at home mom for the meantime that we're still on a look out for a maid. I usually let Gaby do some cooking when our hands are free from Mikee (read as: Mikee sleeping ). Here's Gaby's Banana Fritters or  in Tagalog,   Maruya or Baduya in Bicol. Peel the bananas or saba ...

The Ride to Happiness (Ways to Enjoy Summer on a Shoe String Budget)

Image
I f you're a Mom who spends money and time wisely, this adventure for a very minimal cost is for you. I took my girls out for a train ride one hot summer afternoon. (Actually this has been my long time promise to them.) For those who are not familiar with the PNR schedule, the commuter train has two schedule. One in the morning at 5:30 am and one in the afternoon at 3:30 pm. You will get to your destination                                                Gaby and Wafi inside the commuter train  (if you chose for a Libmanan joyride). All you have to do is :  1.Wear  light clothes.  2.Bring your camera (for documentation, but don't take a lot of photos, so you could also enjoy the ride with them> )   3. Turn off your mobile phones so you'll enjoy the sights and sounds around. ...
